Present at the event were Vice President of the WTAs Chris Frost, Da Nang People’s Committee Vice Chairman Dang Viet Dung, and about 200 invited guests who are high-ranking delegates and top international businesspeople and experts in the international tourism and communications sectors.

Da Nang successfully surpassed 8 other nominees, namely Bangkok, Beijing, Hong Kong, Kuala Lumpur, Macau, Seoul, Shanghai, and Singapore, to win the prestigious award.

Vice Chairman Dung remarked, “Given its tourism development potential and its position as a gateway to the UNESCO-recognised world heritage sites of Hue Citadel, Hoi An and My Son Sanctuary, Da Nang is emerging as an attractive and safe destination on the national and global tourism maps.  The city boasts economic and political stability, and friendly and hospitable residents”.  He also pledged that the city authorities would do their utmost to ensure the safety of visitors from both home and abroad, as well as to offer the best possible services to them.

Also at the event, the InterContinental Danang Sun Peninsula Resort was named as ‘Asia's Leading Luxury Resort’, ‘Viet Nam’s Leading Resort’, and ‘Viet Nam’s Leading Spa Resort’.  The Naman Retreat was honoured as ‘Asia’s Leading Retreat’.  Vietravel received the ‘Asia’s Leading Tour Operator’ and ‘Viet Nam's Leading Tour Operator’ titles.

Hailed as ‘the Oscars of the travel industry’, the WTAs are the most prestigious and well-known awards in the tourism industry.  They measure the excellence of the service providers by setting customer satisfaction as the top criterion, by which it can help further encourage the competitiveness and quality of the global tourism and hospitality industry.  Each year the WTAs cover the globe with a series of regional gala ceremonies staged to recognise and celebrate individual and collective successes within each key geographical region.
