This is one of the city’s key projects in preparation for the APEC Economic Leaders’ Week (AELW 2017) in November.

Work started on the 3.5 trillion VND (158 million USD) terminal on 15 November 2015.  The city’s International Airport Investment and Exploitation Joint Stock Company is the project’s developer.

According to the company’s General Director, Mr Le Khac Hong, the 2-storey terminal covers an area of 21,000m2, giving a total floor area of 48,000m2.  It will feature 20 emigration and 22 immigration counters, 10 boarding gates with 4 skybridges and 6 bus gates, plus 2 baggage loading and 4 baggage unloading areas.  There will also be a departure lounge area featuring souvenir and food and drinks stalls allowing passengers to relax whilst waiting for their flights.

A 623m-long and 7m-wide vehicle overpass will have 2 traffic lanes and 1m-wide pedestrian sidewalks.  Covering an area of 41,000m2, the parking area will be able to handle 416 cars and 20 coaches.

Once fully operational, the new terminal will be able to handle between 4 and 6 million passengers annually, at a rate of 1,600 passengers per hour during the busiest periods.

To date, 73% of the installation of a surveillance camera system and 60% of the building of internal roads has been completed.  Construction units are making every effort to complete the construction work by 10 April, which will be followed by inspections the next day.

After a 4-day trial operation period between 25 and 28 April, the terminal is scheduled to officially serve its first flight on May 8.  All the international flights will then progressively transfer to the new facility between May 9 and 15.

Secretary Anh highly praised the project’s developer and its construction units for making great efforts to implement the project with a high sense of responsibility.  This large-scale project will be clear evidence of the efficiency of the city’s appeals for public investment into its key projects.

Secretary Anh underlined the need for the project’s developer and its construction units to ensure that the remaining work stays on track and to secure the quality and the aesthetic standards of the whole project.

He remarked that the new terminal is the pride of Da Nang because, upon its completion, it will welcome the leaders of the 21 APEC member economies attending AELW 2017.

Vice Chairman Tuan vowed that the city authorities would create even more favourable conditions for the project’s developer and its construction units to ensure the on-schedule completion of the project, thereby helping to accelerate the city’s progress and bring a positive change to the face of the city.

He also proudly said the operation of the new terminal is expected to result in more foreign tourists coming to Da Nang, and to the central region and highlands as a whole, in the years ahead.
