300 billion VND barge project in Da Nang Bay for cargo transportation

The Da Nang Port JSC will develop a 300 billion VND project for transporting container cargo between the existing Tien Sa and soon-to-be-constructed Lien Chieu ports by barge.

The Tien Sa Port, one of the Da Nang Port’s main terminals, is being flooded by increasing cargo shipments, and since 2020 onwards, it is unable to handle large cargo volumes.
The Tien Sa Port, one of the Da Nang Port’s main terminals, is being flooded by increasing cargo shipments, and since 2020 onwards, it is unable to handle large cargo volumes.

The barge area, as part of the Lien Chieu mega-port project, aims at reducing traffic density on an entrance/exit road at the overloaded Tien Sa Port.

Under the barge project, after container ships have docked at the Tien Sa Port, the cargo will be transferred to barges for onward transport to the Lien Chieu Port. From there, they will be transported to other destinations nationwide by road.

Once the Lien Chieu Port is put into operation, this barge area will serve as an inland waterway wharf.

Mr Nguyen Huu Sia, the General Director of Da Nang Port JSC, said the project plan has been already approved by relevant agencies.

The company has also asked consultants to conduct necessary surveys and compile dossiers of investment proposals.

Starting from 1 October, the rate of night-time cargo delivery at the existing Tien Sa Port has increased to between 20% and 25%, instead of 10% as previously.

The intention is to ease heavy traffic flow during the daytime on the Yet Kieu-Ngo Quyen-Ngu Hanh Son route which cargo from the Tien Sa port was transported through.

To implement this guideline, transport enterprises have also showed their sprit of effective cooperation, hereby resolving conflicts between tourism and logistics services in the current context that the Lien Chieu Port has yet to be built.
