On Tuesday, an inspection group of the Standing Committee of the Da Nang People’s Council, led by its Vice Chairman Le Minh Trung, had a working session with the Authority of the Da Nang Hi-Tech Park and industrial parks (IPs).

During the meeting, the Authority said the city now has 6 dedicated IPs covering a total area of 1,066.52ha. A total of 697.75ha of the IPs’ rentable space has been leased by investors, and the occupation rate of the IPs’ rental space is 86.45%.

In addition, about 76,520 employees are working in the IPs. Of this, the number of domestic migrants now accounts for approximately 40% of the total.

The Authority, however, pointed out some shortcomings in the development of the IPs over recent years.

Amongst these were the asynchronous development of IPs, and the slow progress of infrastructure construction and the site clearance and compensation work.

Besides, there was a lack of cultural and entertainment activities, especially social welfare programmes, for IP workers.

As for investment attraction and management activities, the Authority emphasised that many of projects in IPs were small in size, and technology transfer activities were still slow.

Job applicants have yet to satisfy the requirements of recruiters in local IPs, and the domestic labour market as a whole.

In his remarks at the meeting, Vice Chairman Trung said, this was the first time the Standing Committee had conducted the monitoring of local IPs.

Mr Trung said that the devotion of businesses operating in the IPs for the city’s progress is still lower than expected when compared to the city’s total investment pouring into IPs over recent years.

Vice Chairman Trung also asked the Authority to report him about the details of the achievements the IPs have achieved in recent years, as well as propose solutions to the municipal authorities to enhance the operational efficiency of businesses operating in IPs in a bid to promote the city’s progress in the years ahead.
