Leveraging Da Nang's potential for sustainable tourism development
In possession of favourable natural conditions and charming tourist sites, Da Nang is on right track for promoting green tourism with a focus on tapping into its rich natural attractions such as mountains and sea in a bid to develop Da Nang tourism in a sustainable way.

Helping tourists immerse themselves in nature
In recent years, Da Nang has focused on developing green tourism. In particular, the Da Nang Institute for Social and Economic Research has outlined proposals for ecotourism development as part of Da Nang’s project on promoting its green growth.
Till date, Da Nang has seen a boom in eco-friendly resorts, contributing to diversifying local tourism products to satisfy the needs of tourists, and supporting environmental protection. Included are Suoi Hoa, Ngam Doi, Nui Than Tai, Hoa Phu Thanh and Tien Sa tourist sites which are the best places in the city for an environmentally friendly holiday.
Ms. Tran Nuong , Assistant Manager at Department for Business at the Hoa Phu Thanh Resort said that the tourist site offers exciting outdoor adventures for visitors such as whitewater rafting, rowing, Zip lines, and much more.
In particular, visitors to Hoa Phu Thanh Resort can immerse themselves in nature when soaking their feet in a stream and enjoying fish pedicure. The biggest highlight of Hoa Phu Thanh resort is whitewater rafting tour which helps you fully experience the waterfall on a rubber boat with a journey of 3km.

“Before COVID-19 swept Viet Nam, Nui Than Tai Resort had welcomed from 5,000-7,000 visitors a week, especially 11,000-12,000 visitors on public holidays. Currently, the resort sees return of visitors with 700 -1,000 visitors on weekends, most of whom are local rersidents ”, Ms. Le Thi Bich Huong remarked.
The hotel industry is beginning to implement green design in an effort to help guests stay green for their eco-friendly vacation in Da Nang. Therefore, green space designs become a sustainable solution for every hotel in the city.
Eco-friendly designs can be seen in such hotels as Condotel Babylon Garden and Greenery (both located on Ha Bong Street, Son Tra District), Chicland (set on Vo Nguyen Giap Street, Son Tra District).
Raising public awareness about marine environmental threats and conservation efforts
Apart from developing eco-friendly resorts in Da Nang’s mountainous areas, the city is focus on tapping into local beaches and Son Tra Peninsula to promote the development of the tourism industry with priority given to making sure that beaches are clean and safe for everyone to swim.
Mr. Nguyen Duc Vu, Head of Management Board of Son Tra Peninsula and Da Nang Tourist Beaches said Da Nang is forecast to see strong return of beach-goers, including local residents and tourists, in the upcoming summer holidays, with the expected rate of return accounting for about 60-70% compared with the figure recorded in the peak summer season of the previous years.
In its effort to ensure the safety of swimmers and keep the beaches green, clean and beautiful, Management Board of Son Tra Peninsula and Da Nang Tourist Beaches has already put in place visible signals on safe bathing areas, and makes sure that beach surveillance and rescue operations are practised to ensure safety for beach-goers. The focus is also on supervising all cleaning activities on the beaches, and placing more trash bins on beaches.
Ms. Duong Thi Xuan Lieu from the Management Board of Son Tra Peninsula and Da Nang Tourist Beaches, said the "Cleaning up Son Tra" campaign has helped to raise public awareness about environmental protection, conserving biodiversity and protecting wildlife on Son Tra Peninsula, minimising wastes, especially plastic waste being generated at beaches and Son Tra Peninsula.
“This year, the Management Board of Son Tra Peninsula and Da Nang Tourist Beaches will launch campaigns with different themes in the peak tourist season from March to September. In late March, the Management Board worked with the Vietnam Green Water Biodiversity Conservation Center (Green Viet) to launch their first-ever the "Cleaning up Son Tra - For a Green Son Tra" campaign at the Chay Beach on Son Tra peninsula. After 4 days of launching, nearly 500 volunteers registered to participate in this campaign. They were from Duy Tan University, University of Economics, University of Education, Scouts - Hai Chau, Greentrip, Eco Station, GEA , Danang runner, and more. Volunteers participated in cleaning the routes from Doi Temple to the InterContinental Danang Sun Peninsula Resort area, Tien Sa route, ” said Ms. Duong Thi Xuan Lieu.
After the virus were brought under control in Viet Nam, Da Nang has launched a tourism campaign to stimulate the demand for promoting domestic tourism. The city has prioritised to encourage Da Nang people to travel locally to explore local green tourist places they have yet to visit.
At a conference on tourism in early April 2021, Director of Da Nang Department of Tourism Truong Thi Hong Hanh said that the department has carried out a series of marketing campaigns to introduce local people's daily life, and invite the most influential people in Viet Nam to join Da Nang exciting tours in order to experience local tourism services. Their tours to Da Nang will help prove that Da Nang is safe to travel again. In addition, another campaign has been launched to inspire Da Nang people to take a holiday at home.
Currently, such tours as coral reef diving, windsurfing, canoeing, night squid fishing around Son Tra peninsula are suspended due to COVID-19, and they are waiting to reopen after getting permission from Da Nang government.
The Management Board of Son Tra peninsula and Da Nang Tourist Beaches will launch the "My An Beach by Night" programme in late April. The organizers promise fun-filled event for crowds at the My An Beach. The event will be filled with a lot of things to do, including outdoor shows, beach massage, beachside movie screenings.
The intention is to create more new attractive tourism products for tourists. The priority is given to developing eco eco-friendly tourism products, creating strategies to minimise the impact of tourism on the environment in an effort to promote sustainable tourism development within Da Nang.
