Additional architectural works give attractive facelift to Da Nang urban centre

The Da Nang People's Committee has directed the organisation of architectural design contest for Thanh Nien (Youth) Park and the Hai Chau District Administrative Centre. These are two major technical infrastructure projects promised to bring ‘attractive new coat’ to the city centre.

Youth Park to get ‘new coat’

A large-scale upgrade of the Thanh Nien (Youth) Park, which now encompasses parts of Hai Chau District’s Hoa Cuong Nam Ward and Cam Le District’s Khue Trung Ward, will be conducted following a nod given by the municipal administration.

The upgrade is highly promised to give an attractive facelift to the park, which is now face a shortage of many public entertainment services and facilities, and has a low density of trees.

The soon-to-be-upgraded park will be planned to cover over a total area of 37.32ha, of which 8.3ha is water surface.

It will border Dang Xuan Bang street to the north, Xuan Thuy Street to the west, Cach Mang Thang 8 Street to the south, and Le Thanh Nghi Street to the east.

The park’s ‘new coat’ is highly promised to feature a typical community space where cultural exchange activities take place during public holidays, at Tet, and in daily life, with a harmonious combination of architectural elements, water and green-covered landscape, and entertainment facilities, hereby satisfying the diversified needs and aspirations of locals and visitors, especially teenagers.

In particular, the project will include the construction of the Da Nang Cultural - Cinema Centre, which is a municipal-level important cultural institution developed by the Department of Culture and Sports in the 2022 - 2023 period right.

In detail, the 3,000m2 municipal Culture - Cinema Centre will serve as a place for organising cultural evevts, arts programmes, festivals and the screening of movies.

Meanwhile, the about 6,800m2 Youth Entertainment Technology Centre, featuring laser projection technology, will be designed for cultural and historical exchanges for the young people.

Besides the aforementioned features, the park will consist of such new other facilities as a square, parking lots, an area for the organisation of startup activities, a picnic spot, an outdoor performance stage, mini soccer and tennis courts, swimming pools.

Once upgraded, the park will turn itself into a new architectural landmark and an attractive multi-functional public place in Da Nang.

Hai Chau District Administrative Centre to be upgraded

According to Secretary of the Hai Chau District Party Committee Vu Quang Hung, the exiting Hai Chau District Administrative Centre at 270 Tran Phu, Phuoc Ninh Ward will get “a new coat’ following soon-to-be upgrade.

Currently, the out-of-date technical infrastructure and structure at this deteriorated facility cannot meet requirements of handling administrative activities, especially the performance of public service tasks.

The expansion project has a total planned area of 8,010 m2, including the existing Hai Chau District Administrative Centre covering about 4,925 m2 and some land in the vicinity.

The planned project will border a 3m wide alley to the north, the current residential area to the west, Le Dinh Duong Street to the south and Tran Phu Street to the east.

Under the Da Nang Master Plan for its major developments by 2030, with a vision towards 2045, Hai Chau District is identified as the central urban area of modern, smart and liveable Da Nang, serving as a key hub for urban, economic and cultural development.

The synchronous upgrade of technical infrastructure and urban facilities will help improve the quality of life and embellish the landscape architecture as well as make an important contribution to the city’s progress.

It is a must-do to develop Hai Chau into a modern urban area and a model of urban order, thus creating a spillover effect and accelerating the speed and efficiency of local economic development.

More recently, the top 8 architectural ideas for the expansion of Hai Chau District Administrative Centre were announced by the Da Nang Construction Engineering Consultancy Centre.

Launched in May 2021, the contest aimed at seeking best architectural ideas for the expansion of Hai Chau District Administrative Centre has attracted 20 entries in total from 19 design units.
