Da Nang partners with Viettel in digital transformation for smart city building

The Da Nang People's Committee and the Viettel Military Industry and Telecoms Group, on Tuesday, entered a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on building Da Nang into a smart city in the 2021-2025 period.

Present at the event were Deputy Secretary of the Da Nang Party Committee cum Chairman of the municipal People's Council Luong Nguyen Minh Triet, Chairman of the municipal People's Committee Le Trung Chinh, Vice Chairman of the municipal People's Committee Tran Phuoc Son, and Major General Le Dang Dung, the Chairman and General Director of the Viettel Military Industry and Telecoms Group.

The MoU focuses on five main contents, namely digital infrastructure, data and digital platforms, digital government, digital economy, digital society.

Accordingly, the two sides has committed to joining forcers in mobilising resources and strengthening cooperation and mutual support so as to promote the research and application of IT and digital technology in the management and administration of socio-economic development, the provision of public services and the development of the digital economy and digital society towards building Da Nang into a smart city.

The MoU is valid from the date of signing till December 31, 2025 or ends with the written consent made by the both signatories. 

According an evaluation made by Deputy Secretary Triet at the signing ceremony, the cooperation with Viettel is of great significance in realise Da Nang’s Digital Transformation and Smart City Building goals.

The Da Nang administration has always attached great importance to boosting the development of information and communication technology (ICT) as well as digital transformation.

Da Nang has secured its leading position for 12 years in a row in the Viet Nam ICT Index, the rankings on the readiness for information and communications technology (ICT) development and applications.

In the past 4 years, the Da Nang Party Committee has issued 4 important documents related to the progress of ICT and digital transformation.

The city leader hoped that Viettel would make provisions of the latest, most advance technologies and favourable conditions to help the bilateral MoU succeed.

In his perspective, Chairman Chinh affirmed that digital transformation serves as a driving force cum a golden opportunity to solve ‘bottlenecks’ as well as create breakthroughs in the city's development, in tandem with mobilising the participation of the whole political system and the entire society to participate in digital transformation.

The signing of the above-mentioned cooperation agreement is one of the necessary and important steps on the city's digital transformation journey, opening a new phase of cooperation between Da Nang and Viettel, while bringing into play the strengths of the group in solving urban development problems, thereby contributing to developing Da Nang into an ecological, modern, smart and livable city.

It is known that Viettel has studied a number of issues in Da Nang such as the building of smart travel cards, an e-commerce platform for tourism, virtual exhibitions and digital payment.

The group is now focusing on mobilising the best resources to implement the signed contents on digital transformation in the most efficient and fastest way.
