Some solutions proposed for urban development in Central Viet Nam
On Tuesday, the Institute of Social Sciences of the Central Region (ISSCR) under the Viet Nam Academy of Social Sciences held a national scientific workshop, which took ‘Urban development in Central Viet Nam: Theory and Practice Issues’ as its theme, in Da Nang in both in-person and online formats.
In his remarks at the conference, Dr. Hoang Hong Hiep, Acting Director of the ISSCR, noted that this was one of the few in-depth scientific conferences in Central Viet Nam on the topic of urban development. He highlighted the significance of the event in providing relevant agencies with scientific and practical bases for promoting sustainable urban development in Central Viet Nam in a new normal.
According to Dr. Hoang Hong Hiep, recent years have witnessed rapid urbanization in Central Viet Nam, especially on the eastern side of the region. However, he also pointed out some shortcomings, limitations and challenges during the urbanization process. Included were uneven urban development among localities and regions, a lack of orientation and connectivity during the urban planning between cities, shrinking urban greenspace, and urban infrastructure having not yet to meet the needs of residents.
A total of 34 presentations and in-depth research that comprehensively reflected the urban development of the region were presented at the workshop.
Particularly, Da Nang has proposed some solutions for urban management and infrastructure development such as urban government issues, emission control, and solid waste and inundation management, and smart city building.
