Central Viet Nam's most modern water supply plant about to be put into operation
Da Nang is a large urban hub in Central Viet Nam, raw water resources mainly depend on the river system from neighbouring provinces. On fully operational, the under-construction Hoa Lien Water Plant project, with a total design capacity of 240,000m3/day, is expected to meet 50% of the whole city's demand for water in the coming years.

The Da Nang People's Committee gave a nod to the implementation of the Hoa Lien Water Plant project according to Decision No. 3476/QD-UBND dated August 7, 2019 with a total investment capital of VND1,170 billion funded by the municipal budget.
The project’s developer is the Management Board of Industrial and Civil Engineering Construction and Investment Projects.
Work commenced on this important project on March 25, 2020.
The project is designed with a reinforced concrete water-raising dam on the Cu De River for exploiting raw water, with a capacity of Phase 1 of 120,000m3/day; a raw water pumping station in Phase 1 with a capacity of 120,000m3/day, a raw water transfer pipeline D1400 in Phase 1 with a capacity of 120,000m3/day and can meet expansion demand in Phase 2 with a capacity of 240,000m3/day, and a water treatment plant, the most important component, with a capacity of 120,000m3/day in Phase 1 and then 240,000m3/day in Phase 2.
After more than 2 years of construction facing many difficulties due to the upheavals of the COVID-19 pandemic, the unfavourable weather, a shortage of the sources of materials and labour, but the developer and contractors have made great efforts to keep the project on schedule, heading toward completion.
At the construction site of the water treatment plant, the project’s main construction item, for many months in a row, hundreds of workers and engineers have worked diligently and they stayed in construction camps to ensure project progress.
As reported by the project’s developer, three fourths of the project’s main work items have been completed.

A total of 200 workers and specialised vehicles of all kinds, 22,000m3 of concrete, 11,100 tonnes of steel, 3,200m3 of sand and stone of all kinds have been mobilised for the construction of the reinforced concrete water-raising dam on the Cu De River. This work item is nearing completion.
Meanwhile, the construction of the raw water pumping station and the installation of the raw water pipeline have also been completed.
The development of the water treatment plant has been completed and operated for an interlock test with 100% capacity in 72 hours, with good performance results.
Particularly, the building of a concrete road surrounding the water treatment plant has been completed at a rate of 70%.
As revealed by Luong Thach Vy, the Deputy Director of the Da Nang Management Board of Industrial and Civil Engineering Construction and Investment Projects, a mandatory technical acceptance testing of the water treatment plan will be conduct in July 2022 in a bid to put it into operation as soon as possible.
According to Deputy Director of the municipal Department of Construction Vo Tan Ha, the project has basically ensured its initially-set progress. The large scale project is the most modern of its kind in the Central region.
