Da Nang's May CPI inches down 0.18%

Da Nang reported a decrease of 0.18% in its consumer price index (CPI) in May compared with that of the previous month, and an increase of 4.73% over the same period in 2022, according to the municipal Statistics Office.

Specifically, a decline was seen in three out of the 11 commodity groups, including traffic (3.78%); appliances and household appliances (0.09%); and apparel, hats and footwear (0.08%).

Meanwhile, prices of seven commodity groups reported an increase, with the highest level reported in housing, electricity, water, fuel and construction materials (0.83%); other goods and services (0.28%); post and telecommunications (0.26%); beverages and tobacco (0.19%); culture, entertainment and tourism (0.07%); food and catering services (0.05%); and medicine and health services (0.04%).

The price of education remained unchanged in May.

The fall in May CPI was attributed to increasing supply of food groups due to favourable weather conditions, causing the prices of food to decrease by 0.11%, and foodstuffs by 0.38% compared with the previous month.

Petrol and oil prices were adjusted down in the month. Besides, the price of construction materials decreased by 0.45% due to the decrease in sand and steel prices against April.
