National rowing and canoeing championships open in Da Nang

The Viet Nam Boat Racing Federation, in collaboration with the Da Nang Department of Culture and Sports, on Friday opened the National Rowing and Canoeing Championships 2022 for all clubs nationwide with races taking place on the Dong Nghe Lake, Hoa Khuong Commune, Hoa Vang District.

The tournament, which runs until July 2, attracts 411 male and female athletes from 26 provinces and cities nationwide.

Rowing has 20 events for men and women, with 2,000m in singles, doubles and quadruples.

Canoeing comprises 36 events for men and women for Canoes and Kayaks with distances of 200m, 500m, 1,000m in singles, doubles and quadruples.

The Da Nang team consists of 54 athletes participating in the tournament with the target of winning 10 gold, 4 silver and 4 bronze medals.

As assessed by Mr. Nguyen Trong Thao, the Deputy Director of the Da Nang Department of Culture and Sports cum Head of the event’s Organising Committee, this year's tournament has been carefully prepared in terms of facilities and professional equipment.

With great efforts exerted by athletes in the past time, the tournament offers the audience exciting and fierce competitions.

The tournament aims to create conditions for athletes to enhance their skills and gain more performance experience in preparation for competing at the National Gymnastics and Sports Congress 2022, which is slated to take place at the end of this year.
