Co-organised by the museum and the Japan Foundation Center for Cultural Exchange in Viet Nam, the exhibition aims to celebrate the 50th founding anniversary of the Viet Nam - Japan diplomatic relations (September 21, 1973 - 2023), and contributes to promoting the beauty of Japanese culture to the Vietnamese people.
On display at the event will be around 70 traditional and modern dolls made directly in Japan, and they will be displayed in two areas.
Specifically, one space will exhibit 32 humanoid dolls which simulate a variety of characters from children to adults. In the other space, nearly 38 Kokeshi dolls will be introduced. Kokeshi dolls are simple wooden Japanese dolls with no arms or legs that have been crafted for more than 150 years as a toy for children.
All displayed dolls are exquisitely crafted under the talented hands of Japanese artisans over many years, and each artisan will take on a separate stage in the process. Therefore, these dolls have high artistic value and are often given as gifts on special occasions.
Since ancient times, dolls have been an indispensable part of the daily life of Japanese people. They reflect cultural practices, aspirations, and beliefs of the Japanese people.
