The Viet Nam Billiards & Snooker Federation held a ceremony on Thursday in Da Nang to honour coach Nguyen Viet Hoa and cueists Tran Quyet Chien and Bao Phuong Vinh for their victory at the World Championship Three-Cushion National Teams after defeating their Spanish rivals at the final in Germany in late March (Viet Nam time).

Speaking at the honouring ceremony, Mr. Le Son Hai, Chairman of the Viet Nam Billiards & Snooker Federation, emphasised that the pair's victory made history for Viet Nam at world three-cushion team tournament. This proved that the Billiards movement in Viet Nam has developed strongly, gradually reaching the world level.

This type of sports requires intelligence and dexterity, suitable for Vietnamese people. The Viet Nam Billiards & Snooker Federation will create the best conditions for players to participate in international tournaments, aiming for the highest achievements, Mr. Hai noted.

Cueist Tran Quyet Chien shared "I am honoured and proud to reach a new milestone in my career, contributing to bringing glory to Vietnamese sports. I want to thank the Viet Nam Billiards & Snooker Federation and the fans for always accompanying, cheering, and creating the best conditions for me and my teammates at each tournament. This victory is the motivation for me to strive harder in the future in order to meet the expectations of my fans".

Previously, Tran Quyet Chien and Bao Phuong Vinh made the audience burst into tears when defeating the Spanish team in the final of the 2024 World Championship Three-Cushion National Teams.

This is Viet Nam's first victory at the tournament. In 2023, Bao Phuong Vinh won the world championship in the individual content. In early March, Tran Quyet Chien won the Three-Cushion Carom Billiards World Cup in the final match in Bogota, Colombia.

Currently, Tran Quyet Chien, Bao Phuong Vinh and other top cueists in Viet Nam compete at the National Cup Carom Billiards Championship - VBSF 2024 taking place at the T26 Hotel in Da Nang. The quarterfinals, semi-finals and finals of the men's 3-band carom event are being held on April 19 and 20.

The tournament is an opportunity for Tran Quyet Chien, Bao Phuong Vinh and other cueists to prepare for the forthcoming Three-Cushion Carom Billiards World Cup in Ho Chi Minh City, scheduled for May 20 to 26.

If he plays well in the upcoming tournament, talented local cueist Tran Quyet Chien will have the opportunity to become the top cueist in the world. He currently finds himself in second place in the latest World Union of Billiards (UMB)'s three-cushion rankings with a total of 371 points behind Cho Myung Woo from South Korean with 381 points.
