Along with well-known swimmers like Hoang Quy Phuoc and Nguyen Huu Kim Son, young faces like Nguyen Viet Tuong and Tran Van Nguyen Quoc contribute positively to the overall achievements of the city’s swimming sector.

For a long time, the swimming sector found it difficult to find young talented swimmers. However, thanks to the great efforts of a team of enthusiastic young coaches, and the special care of leaders of the local sports industry, a group of young talented athletes are gradually asserting themselves in the domestic arena.

Among them, Nguyen Viet Tuong is one of the athletes who pin high hope for the local swimming team. Born in Quang Tri Province, in 2013, Viet Tuong was discovered by the coach of the Da Nang swimming team and facilitated to live and practice at the Da Nang Sports and Gymnastics Athletes Training Centre.

Recalling the time when he first arrived in Da Nang, Viet Tuong shared "At that time, I was only in 4th grade and had never been away from my family. However, with the coaching board's spiritual encouragement, and active support, I gradually integrated with my teammates at the Da Nang youth swimming team. The teachers teach me very enthusiastically, helping me improve my skills every day and have a great passion for swimming".

Since 2015, Viet Tuong has been facilitated to compete in youth swimming championships, and national swimming championships.

In the first tournaments, his main goal was to enhance his skills and gain experience. After that, he has continuously won gold medals for the local swimming sector.

In particular, in 2023, Viet Tuong grabbed four gold medals at the national swimming championship held in Ho Chi Minh City.

Most recently, he and his teammates took the gold medal in the 4x50m mixed relay event at the National 25m-pool Swimming and Diving Championships in Thua Thien Hue Province.

His great efforts have been paid off as Viet Tuong was called up to the national youth swimming team in 2016 and to the national swimming team in 2020.

Currently, he and his teammates of the national swimming team are practicing at the Da Nang National Sports Training Centre.

“I will try my best in training to be selected by the coaching staff to compete in international tournaments in the near future" Viet Tuong said.

Along with Nguyen Viet Tuong, Tran Van Nguyen Quoc is being trained at the national swimming team.

The native of Da Nang was called up to the national youth swimming team in 2022 and to the national swimming team in 2023.

Despite his young age of only 16, Quoc has brought impressive achievements for the Da Nang swimming sector. In particular, he won two gold medals at the youth swimming championship and the national swimming championship for young age groups in 2023.

Recently, Quoc and his teammates pocketed the gold medal in the 4x100m freestyle relay at the National 25m-pool Swimming and Diving Championships 2024 in Thua Thien Hue Province.

Quoc targets to earn gold medals for the Da Nang swimming team at the forthcoming national swimming championships in 2024, as well as the best results at the 13th Southeast Asian Student Sports Games in June and the Southeast Asian Age Group Swimming Championship in July.

According to coach Pham Truong Giang of the Da Nang swimming team, Nguyen Viet Tuong and Tran Van Nguyen Quoc are two of the promising young swimmers who can compete for medals at national and international championships.

Hopefully, Viet Tuong, Nguyen Quoc, and their teammates continue to maintain their form, helping the local swimming team achieve its goals set for 2024, he noted.
