During recent storm Noul, the middle span of the Nguyen Van Troi pedestrian bridge spanning the River Han in Da Nang was vertically lifted to allow fishing vessels to pass under to seek safe shelters from the storm.

These exciting images of the bridge with its middle lifting span have captured a great deal of public attention.

Let's take a look at the operation of the Nguyen Van Troi vertical lift bridge through amazing photos captured by our reporter Xuan Son.

The Nguyen Van Troi Bridge was built in 1965 by the Americans to connect the western and eastern sides of the Han River to transport weapons of war from the Tien Sa Port to the inner city. Till date, the bridge has kept its original design as witness to a part of Da Nang’s history. It was converted into the city’s pedestrian-only bridge in 2013 in a bid to create a new place to visit in Da Nang.
