Increasing support to Salavan
As part of their ongoing working trip to southern and central localities of Laos, a group of Da Nang’s leaders, led by municipal Party Committee Secretary Truong Quang Nghia, met with representatives of the Salavan Province authorities on Wednesday.

Also present at the event were municipal People's Council Vice Chairman Le Minh Trung, municipal People’s Committee Vice Chairman Tran Van Mien, and Vietnamese Consul General in Pakse City of Laos Bui The Dung.
Mr Sisuvan Vongchomsy, the Party Committee Secretary cum Governor of Salavan Province, highly lauded the visit made by the Da Nang delegation which showed the special solidarity and friendship of the Da Nang Party, government and people to the Laotian province.
Governor Sisuvan Vongchomsy took the opportunity to ask a helping hand from Da Nang to boost the province’s socio-economic development with a vision towards 2030, as well as appeal for more Da Nang businesses to seek investment opportunities in the aspects of tourism, infrastructure and agriculture in his locality.

On behalf of the city’s leaders, Secretary Nghia expressed his deep sympathy to the province about the huge damage caused by the floods due to the effects of the recent storms. The Da Nang Party chief also highlighted the significance of boosting the bilateral cooperation relationships with Salavan, and Laos as a whole, in the coming time.

The two sides agreed to continue implementing cooperative programmes in the years ahead under the memorandum of understanding between the two localities signed for the 2018-2022 period. The focus will be on building a multi-purpose house at the Da Nang-Salavan Friendship Junior High School, and granting scholarships to Lao students.
On this occasion, Da Nang presented 250 million VND to Salavan to help the province to overcome the consequences of the recent floods.

Also on the same day, the Da Nang visitors attended the opening ceremony of the Vietnamese Language Centre in Salavan Province.
The construction of the centre began in late 2018, and the work cost 7.1 billion VND funded by the Da Nang government.
The 2-storey centre features 5 classrooms, a meeting room, 2 rooms for teachers, a library, a working room for the Vietnamese People's Association in Salavan, a kitchen and some toilets.

In his remarks at the event, Vice Chairman Mien said starting from the 2019-2020 school year, Da Nang would send 2 teachers per year to teach Vietnamese language at the centre.
To mark the event, Da Nang donated 100 million VND from the city budget to the centre for purchasing teaching and learning equipment.
Also at the event, Vice Chairman Mien, and Director of the Salavan branch of the Da Nang Centre for Investment Cooperation and Project Management in Laos Le Van Hung, were honoured with Certificates of Merit from Laotian Minister of Education and Sports in recognition of their great devotion to fostering the Da Nang-Salavan friendship and cooperation relations.

Also on Wednesday, the Da Nang delegation paid a visit to the Salavan branch of the Da Nang Centre for Investment Cooperation and Project Management in Laos.

Secretary Nghia wished the centre’s staff good health, and hoped that they would make every effort to fulfil their assigned tasks, thereby contributing to promoting the bilateral cooperation and exchanges between Da Nang and the southern and central provinces of Laos.
