More than 403 billion VND raised for charitable activities in Da Nang

On Saturday, the Da Nang Association of Charities and Children's Rights Protection held a ceremony to celebrate its 25th birthday (28 February 1996- 28 February 2021).

Municipal People's Committee Chairman cum Honourary Chairman of the Association Le Trung Chinh made his presence at the event.

Over the past 25 years, the Association and its chapters across the city together raised more than 403 billion VND in total from generous philanthropists from both home and overseas for their charitable activities.

The donated money went to build new houses or repair downgraded ones for 1,014 poor families, donate wheelchairs to 7,400 disabled people and children with cerebral palsy, plus give nearly 8 million portions of meals for poor patients in Da Nang-based hospitals.

Besides, 284 families were lifted out of poverty, means of livelihood were provided for 68 the disabled, and over 100 single elderly people were facilitated to live at city-based care centres for single seniors and homeless.

Hundreds of thousands of the poor and disadvantaged pupils and students received gifts, scholarships and free medical checkups and treatment.

In his remarks at the event, municipal People's Committee Chairman cum Honourary Chairman of the Association Le Trung Chinh highly hailed the Association for its significant achievements during that period, hereby, helping the city to fulfil its target of ensuring social welfare and poverty reduction.

Mr Chinh also urged the Association to continue asking for help from generous domestic and foreign donors to support poor children and the needy in Da Nang.

Also at the event, the Association received an Emulation Flag from the Da Nang People's Committee in recognition of its outstanding achievements in 2020. In addition, close to 8 billion VND was raised at the event from generous philanthropists across Da Nang to support the Association's charitable events in the years ahead.

Some sponsors were honoured with the Association-granted ‘Golden Heart’ certificates and flowers for their commitment and dedication for the Association's humanitarian programmes over the past 25 years .
