Da Nang leaders on Friday met with their counterparts from Hai Phong City to discuss ways to boost bilateral cooperation between the two localities.

In his remarks at the working session, Da Nang People's Committee Vice Chairman Ho Ky Minh expressed his delight at fruitful results from bilateral cooperative programmes between Da Nang and Hai Phong in such aspects as tourism, transportation, seaports, culture, sports, healthcare, social security and national defence since they established twinning relationships 60 years ago.

Da Nang and Hai Phong shared many similarities in being centrally-governed cities, being national-level first-grade cities, and having pivotal roles and potential positions in each key economic region.

Also, the Politburo has issued resolutions and conclusions to create a breakthrough mechanism and a driving force for long-term and sustainable development for the two cities.

All were important historical milestones, which served as the foundation and motivation for the two cities to quickly promote their potential and advantages to step by step become one of the central cities of the country.

Vice Chairman Minh, however, said that both localities have yet to fully tap their great potential and strengths.

He, therefore, emphasised that the two localities would promote cooperation in tourism, and transport infrastructure such as airports, seaports, and logistics, in order to drive the growth of their economies in particular, and of the northern and central key economic regions in general.

Hai Phong Party Committee Secretary Tran Luu Quang highlighted that the working session marked an important milestone in fostering the cooperation between the two localities in both economy field and Party building work.

He humbly compared Hai Phong as a large ocean liner, but ran very slowly, in danger of falling behind the local set of criteria. Meanwhile, Da Nang was a dynamic and creative city with approach very close to the set of criteria of a modern city.

He proposed the two cities to cooperate comprehensively and substantively in all fields, especially exchanging experience in dealing with difficult issues and legal barriers and solving the difficulties of each locality.

Speaking at the meeting, Secretary of the Da Nang Party Committee Nguyen Van Quang highly appreciated remarkable achievements Hai Phong has gained in recent years, considering this a bright spot for Da Nang to study.

The city Party Chief Quang took the opportunity to ask for support from Hai Phong to help Da Nang realise its target of becoming a financial hub in Central Viet Nam in the coming time.
