Da Nang always cares for, helps and protects victims of AO

The Da Nang Association of Victims of Agent Orange/Dioxin (DAVA) held a ceremony on Tuesday to celebrate the 61st anniversary of the Agent Orange (AO) disaster in Viet Nam (August 10), and the ‘Joining hands to soothe the pain caused by Agent Orange’ programme 2022.

Permanent Deputy Secretary of the Da Nang Party Committee cum Chairman of the municipal People's Council Luong Nguyen Minh Triet, Vice Chairwoman of the municipal People's Committee Ngo Thi Kim Yen, and representatives of leaders of units and philanthropists made their attendance at the event.

Addressing the programme, municipal People’s Committee Vice Chairwoman Ngo Thi Kim Yen remarked, over the past time, the Party and the government of Da Nang have made wholehearted efforts with the highest sense of responsibility to care for, help and protect legitimate interests for victims of AO.

In particular, the Association has become a reliable address and a typical organisation in caring for, helping and protecting victims of AO in the city.

Vice Chairwoman Yen affirmed that the city will continue making its best efforts to well implement socio-economic development programmes and goals, and ensure social welfare, especially issuing more policies to better support and care for AO victims.

She expressed her hope that the ‘Joining hands to soothe the pain caused by Agent Orange’ programme would continue to receive enthusiastic response from the departments, agencies, and philanthropists in order to bring a better life to local victims of AO.

During the programme, the organisers presented 30 gifts, VND1.1 million each, to AO victims and war veterans in difficult circumstances. Twenty-six units, organisations and individuals gave symbolic boards of donations worth billions of VND to support the programme.

On the occasion, municipal Party Committee Permanent Deputy Secretary Luong Nguyen Minh Triet and local People's Committee Vice Chairwoman Ngo Thi Kim Yen presented flowers to domestic and foreign organisations and individuals in recognition of their active support for the Association over the past years.

Moreover, the organisers appealed for individuals to provide donations for victims of AO nationwide through the use of SMS.

At the end of the programme, more than VND6 billion was raised from nearly 300 organisations, units and benefactors to help local AO victims.
