Da Nang now has a population of around 1.2 million.  Thanks to the city’s improved infrastructure and rapid socio-economic development, the living standards of residents, especially those living in rural areas, have significantly improved over recent years.

In 2015, a total of 4,608 pregnant women and 6,067 infants accessed pre-natal and newborn screenings thanks to the establishment of the newborn screening centre at the city’s Maternity and Paediatrics Hospital.

In addition, around 6,000 pregnant and soon-to-be married women participated in talks and seminars on pre-natal and newborn screenings at ward and commune medical stations and hospitals.  This has helped to raise their awareness of these services in order to reduce the number of children born with defects and improve the health of the city’s resident population.

Recently, the city has also focused on care for the elderly because the average life expectancy of people is one of the major criteria in the evaluation of the health of a population in a locality.

In addition to raising incomes and improving the spiritual and material lives of residents, top priority is also being given to improving their health.
