On 9 April, the boy was admitted to the Paediatric Recovery Department at the Da Nang Maternity and Paediatrics Hospital due to a high fever, vomiting and bleeding into the skin. Unfortunately, he was diagnosed with meningococcal septicaemia leading to below-knee dry necrosis which shocked and deeply saddened his parents. Therefore, the child patient was then rushed to the city’s General Hospital for below-knee amputations.
Currently, the boy is receiving medical treatment at the city’s Maternity and Paediatrics Hospital, with a postoperative care and oxygen therapy there.
Doctor Tran Long Quan from the hospital’s Paediatric Recovery Department said that the child patient has already been out of the critical condition as his meningococcal septicaemia has gone into remission, and he is now able to eat and drink.
The doctor also noted that the boy’s treatment costs have been covered by health insurance, but he is required to undergo further treatment and rehabilitation with relatively high costs.
The Co Tu boy’s family is very poor as his parents earn only a little money from doing unstable jobs. Therefore, his parents are still in desperate need of more financial assistance to cover the cost of his subsequent medical treatments.
In order to help the ill-fated boy overcome his life-threatening disease, donations can be sent to the Da Nang Newspaper, 6 Tran Phu Street, Da Nang (Phone: 02363812341 and 0905832222) or to his mother C’lâu roy (Phone: 01629227861).
