In recent days, some water supply plants in Da Nang have been operating a daily treatment capacity of 250,000m3 of water, surpassing their designed capacity by 25%, in a bid to satisfy the increasing demand for tap water during these hot summer days.  However, families from some residential areas and some production establishments now still complain about the current shortage of tap water.

According to Mr Ho Huong, the General Director of the Da Nang Water Supply Company (DAWACO), one direct reason for this matter is that his company is focusing on installing new water pipelines and repairing downgraded ones in some parts of the city.  Therefore, some water supply cuts have been reported at the above-mentioned locations in a certain time period.

In particular, Director Huong also raised his deep concern over the current instability of water supplies as the Son Tra and Hai Van water supply plants have now temporarily halted their operations due to a severe shortage of water sourced from springs.  Meanwhile, there has been a sharp increase in the number of new registrations for water supplies in Cam Le and Lien Chieu districts.

To ensure water supplies for the daily lives of local residents, along with agricultural and industrial production activities, large-diameter water pipes are being installed synchronously at such districts as Hai Chau, Son Tra and Ngu Hanh Son.  Also, the upgrade of the Son Tra No 1 and No 2 pumping stations is now underway in a bid to meet the growing demand for tap water from tourism sites on the Son Tra Peninsula.

Furthermore, the upgrade of the city’s entire water supply network is underway as apart of the ongoing project for refurbishing major streets in preparation for the APEC (Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation) Economic Leaders’ Week in November.
