Director of the city’s Transport Department Le Van Trung told the Viet Nam News the flyover will be built at the junction of September 2 and Duy Tan streets, west of the Tran Thi Ly Bridge with a total of 550 billion VND (US$24.3 million) from 2018 - 2020.
Meanwhile, the two-tunnel project will be built at the crossroad at the east side of the Dragon Bridge with 385 billion VND (US$17 million).
Trung said the flyover will include a 203m long four-lane steel bridge on September 2, a 750m tunnel on Duy Tan street and a roundabout on the ground level road.
The multi-level junction will help ease congestion of vehicles travelling from the Da Nang International Airport to beach tourism sites in Son Tra and Ngu Hanh Son districts.
It will be the second multi-level traffic project after the first three-level rail and road flyover was opened at the city’s busiest roundabout, Hue Junction, to alleviate congestion in 2015.

The two-tunnel project will be designed with a 562m tunnel to connect Tran Phu and September 2 streets, while the other tunnel section will link Bach Dang and September 2 streets.
The tunnel project will help avoid congestion at the ground level intersection among vehicles travelling on Nguyen Van Linh, Bach Dang, Tran Phu, September 2, and Trung Nu Vuong streets.
The tunnel road also includes a tunnel for pedestrian and a Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) station on Nguyen Van Linh Street.
The city has already put into operation two road tunnel projects at the western Han River bank intersection and a tunnel at the junction of Dien Bien Phu, Nguyen Tri Phuong and Le Duan streets in 2015 - 2018.
Da Nang citizens make 2.1 million journeys a day, of which 80% are via motorbike, according to the city’s transport department.
Da Nang, the third largest city in Viet Nam, has made significant investments in urban development, aiming to become a ‘green’ and ‘smart’ city by 2025.
