Da Nang Children Sponsor Fund provides practical support for poor children

Since the start of the year, the Da Nang Children Sponsor Fund has raised about one billion VND in cash and in-kind donations from generous philanthropists both at home and abroad.

The donations have gone to help children in special circumstances across Da Nang overcome their difficulties and have better lives in the future.

In details, the Fund has awarded scholarships, valued at 2 million VND each, to 16 children of naval officers and sailors in addition to offering bikes to 50 poor pupils.

Besides, the fund has provided training courses on life skills and protecting children from online abuse for 400 members of Children's Rights Protection clubs in Thanh Khe Districts.

Also, hand soaps, hand sanitizer gel, floor cleaner liquid, toothpaste and mouthwash have been donated to nearly 1,200 poor families in Hoa Vang District and 170 people living in the Da Nang community care centre.

The Fund has coordinated with the Viet Nam Dairy Products JSC (Vinamilk) to offer fresh milk, hand soaps and face masks to around 450 children at 5 care centres for children in special circumstances in Da Nang.

In addition, the organisation has worked with the Da Nang General Hospital and the municipal Association for Supporting Poor and Disadvantaged Women and Children to provide over 8,500 poor children across the city with free screening tests for the early detection of congenital heart complaints. As a result, 32 of them who have been diagnosed with heart failure have undergone heart surgeries free of charge.

Deputy Director of the municipal Department of Labour, Ward Invalids and Social Affairs Tran Cong Nguyen said, over recent years, the organisation has been active in calling on generous philanthropists both at home and abroad to help underprivileged children to overcome their difficulties and challenges to have better lives and bright future.

“In the time to come, the Da Nang Children Sponsor Fund will continue its efforts to provide practical support to those in need” Deputy Director Nguyen noted.

The focus will be on granting scholarships for 60 poor pupils, and providing poor children with free screening tests for the early detection of congenital heart complaints, Mr Nguyen remarked.
