According to the latest figures released by the Traffic Police Division of the Da Nang Police Department, no road traffic accidents were reported in the city during the four-day back-to-back break for the National Reunification Day (April 30) and Labour Day (May 1) holidays from April 30 – May 3.

The positive results have been attributed to various effective measures taken by the local traffic police officers to raise public awareness about strictly obeying the national traffic regulations. Police forces set aside the fun of enjoying the relaxing festive ambiance of the public holidays so as to be duty at work with a high sense of responsibility and dedication.

Their focus was on increasing their patrols and checks at major streets, entertainment areas, and tourist attractions to deal with traffic violators. Importance was also attached to regulating the traffic at key intersections in order to ensure the smooth movement of vehicles there.

Over the holiday break, a total of about 250 road traffic violations were recorded across the city, including exceeding the speed limit, running through the red light, travelling in the wrong lanes and directions, and driving vehicles without rear-view mirrors.

There were 111 traffic accidents across Viet Nam during four-day holiday break, killing 58 and injuring 64, reported the Railway and Road Traffic Police Department.

Compared to the same period last year, the number of accidents, deaths and injured was down 22, 21 and 12, respectively.

Of the figure, 109 cases were on roads, leaving 56 dead and 64 injured. There was one accident killing one person in railway and another leaving one dead in waterway.

The traffic police nationwide discovered 32,621 violation cases, collected nearly 32 billion VND (1.39 million USD) in fines, and revoked 2,320 driving licenses.
