In its latest bulletin, Viet Nam’s National Centre for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting said at 1:00pm on Sunday, October 24, the disturbance was located about 270km southeast of Song Tu Tay island of Truong Sa Islands.

National forecasters are monitoring for possible formation into a tropical depression.

In the next 24 hours, the disturbance will move toward the west-northwest at 10-15 km per hour, and this system could become a tropical depression.

At 1:00pm on October 25, the disturbance, or a tropical depression, could sit over the waters off northern Truong Sa Islands, packing maximum sustained winds at level 6 and gustiness of up to level 8.

Thereafter, environmental conditions are forecast to be conducive for development while the system continues to move generally west-northwestward at 10-15 km per hour, and it is expected to grow even stronger.

At 1:00pm on October 26, the potential tropical depression will be positioned at latitude 12°N and longitude 111°1'E, about 200km off the east coast of the parts from Binh Dinh to Binh Thuan, with the maximum sustained winds reaching level 7, and the gusts as high as level 9.

The Da Nang Steering Committee for Disaster Response and Search and Rescue is urging the Da Nang Border Guard Command to work with Da Nang Coastal Information Station to keep a close watch on disturbance development in order to keep owners of vessels operating at sea timely informed about severe weather conditions in order to help them take the initiative to avoid dangerous areas or seek safe shelters during the bad weather.

The Da Nang Border Guard Command will keep a close watch on offshore and inshore vessels in a bid to organize timely rescue of any person in distress at sea during severe weather.
