The Da Nang Department of Natural Resources and Environment, on Tuesday, had a working session on integrated management of water resources in the Vu Gia-Thu Bon river basin with the Department of Water Resources Management under the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment, and the French Development Agency (AFD).

During the meeting, a spokesperson for the municipal Department of Natural Resources and Environment briefed the participants on the operation of the Coordination Board for Integrated Management of the Vu Gia - Thu Bon River Basin and coastal area of Quang Nam - Da Nang, the city's water resource management work, the city's difficulties and experiences in tackling water scarcity and salinity, communication work in the prevention and control of floods, droughts, saltwater intrusion and water scarcity, and the installation of automatic and continuous hydrological and water monitoring stations.

Also, some solutions were proposed to ensure domestic water sources for the city, and enhance staff capacity as well as improve the efficiency of river basin and water resource management activities.

Representatives of the Department of Water Resources Management and AFD highly appreciated the Coordination Board for their effective performance over the past time, as well as spoke highly of experts and scientists for their efforts in managing river basins and water resources.

The Department of Water Resources Management and AFD will continue to work with specialised agencies in Da Nang and Quang Nam Province to conduct field studies in the Vu Gia - Thu Bon river basin in order to grasp the difficulties and make proposals to the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment in formulating amendments to the Law on Water Resources in the coming time.
