Downpours cause localized flooding in Da Nang

Moderate to heavy rains continue in Da Nang from Tuesday into Wednesday night and are forecast to lash the city through Friday, accordingto the Mid-central Region Centre for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting.

Specifically, the districts of Hoa Vang, Cam Le, Son Tra, Ngu Hanh Son, Lien Chieu, Thanh Khe and Hai Chau record rainfall of 50-100mm with 120mm -150mm in some parts of these localities.

Some mountainous areas are facing high risks of landslides and flash floods, whilst low-lying areas across the city are also highly prone to inundation.

From Tuesday into Wednesday, The open waters off the Da Nang coast will see high winds at levels 5 to 6, rough sea and a wave height of 2-4m. All ships and other activities at sea are at high risk of being affected by strong winds and big waves, leading to coastal erosion.

At 7:00 am on Tuesday, the flood water level on the Vu Gia River was at 7.24m, 0.74m higher than alarm 1. Hydropower reservoirs upstream in Vu Gia River basin regulate floods with a total flow of 750m3/s. Currently, water levels on the Yen and Cam Le rivers are high, causing flooding in some low-lying roads along the rivers.
