Besides, it has raised a funding of more than VND4.6 billion from businesses and organisations at both home and abroad in a bid to implement small ideas and projects on biodiversity conservation and environmental protection.
Under the project, over 50 social organisations, clubs and unions operating in the field of biodiversity conservation and environmental protection have had their capacity enhanced.
Along with that, 25 related initiatives have received funding and technical support. Meanwhile, 4 communication campaigns have been carried out in order to raise awareness about the importance of biodiversity for the community and promote cooperation between businesses and social organisations involving the field of biodiversity conservation and sustainable environmental protection.
The information was released at a meeting held in Da Nang on Friday to review the implementation of the project over the past three years.
The project “Establishing a Funding Foundation for Biodiversity Protection and Environmental Sustainability in Da Nang city” has been implemented by GreenViet Biodiversity Conservation Centre (GreenViet) and Gustav-Stresemann-Institut (GSI, Germany) with a funding of 650,000 EUR (710,000 USD) from the EU from July 2020 to the end of December 2023.
It aims to strengthen civil society organisations (CSOs) of the city and the central and Central Highlands provinces in environmental protection by diversifying financial resources.
Deputy Director of the municipal Department of Natural Resources and Environment Dang Quang Vinh also highly appreciated the project's activities over the past 3 years, especially investigation, monitoring and communication and education activities to raise public awareness to protect brown-shanked douc langurs in the Son Tra Peninsula.
Also, the project has called for sponsorship resources from businesses and the community to plant more than 13,924 urban trees, thereby contributing to implementing the national government-approved plan to plant one billion trees nationwide during the 2021-2025 period.
The project results contributed to ensure biodiversity conservation and sustainable environmental protection in Da Nang in particular, and some provinces in the Central Viet Nam and Central Highlands region in general.
During its development process, Da Nang has always focused on environmental protection, nature conservation and biodiversity. The city has been and will be allocating resources to implement many projects related to environmental protection and biodiversity conservation.
In addition to city-deployed resources, domestic and foreign cooperation projects have provided huge resource support to the city in terms of funding, technology, experience, and in-depth knowledge of environmental protection and conserve biodiversity.
Facing the current opportunities and challenges in environmental protection and biodiversity conservation, the city has been calling on investors, and domestic and foreign organisations, to turn itself into an environmentally friendly city towards ecological urbanism.
