It was reported that numerous national key transport infrastructure projects were implemented over the 2011 - 2015 period.  By late 2015, the total length of roads in the region had reached over 57,000km.

During the period, regional transportation networks were also extended, and transportation systems in rural areas were upgraded effectively, with 100% of the region’s communes now having concrete roads leading to their communal central areas.

Also, a total of 8 seaports across the region were upgraded in order to meet the increasing demands for cargo transportation between regional localities.

Furthermore, greater efforts were made to enhance the infrastructure at the region’s airports in order to fully tap their potential for the transport of passengers from the region and from other countries.  In particular, the Da Nang International Airport was upgraded to ensure its significant role as the country’s 3rd largest airport.

At the meeting, the participants asked the Ministry of Transport to help regional localities attract more domestic and FDI investment inflows into transportation infrastructure projects.  The aim is to implement large projects connecting coastal routes between Da Nang, Quang Nam, Quang Ngai, Tuy Hoa and Nha Trang.

Also, importance will be attached to upgrading roads lying on the East-West Economic Corridor, and to developing a railway route between Dak Nong Province and Binh Phuoc Province’s Chon Thanh Town, and another one between Tuy Hoa City and Buon Me Thuot City.

In reply, Deputy Minister Dong stressed the need for regional localities to develop their own transportation strategies after completing their plans in order to ensure the effective and economical implementation of their projects.  He also asked them to tighten their management of seaport and airport projects in order to cut down on waste.
