Since the start of this year, inspectors from Da Nang’s Department of Agriculture and Rural Development have inspected 190 of the city’s agriculture-forestry-fisheries processing and trading businesses.  Fines totalling over 60 million VND were imposed on 27 who had violated the city's food safety and hygiene standards.

During the period, inspection teams from the Department of Industry and Trade also paid visits to another 87 food processing and trading establishments.  As a result, 61 of them were found to be violating the city’s regulations, and fines totalling over 153 million VND were imposed on them.

Meanwhile, Health Department inspectors have checked 2,669 catering service providers, and detected 166 food safety and hygiene violations.

Most of the violations were for not providing regular health check-ups for their workers, whilst some establishments were operating without food safety and hygiene certification.

According to the municipal Interdisciplinary Steering Committee on Food Safety, 10 organic vegetable suppliers from Lam Dong Province have recently joined the city’s supply chain for this type of product.  This has brought the total number of such suppliers in the city to 13.

In the immediate future, Da Nang will cooperate with Quang Nam Province for buying organic vegetables and meat.  In addition, one focus will be on conducting the necessary surveys to expand cooperation on agricultural production activities with Binh Dinh and Quang Ngai provinces.
