Results of Central Square design contest announced
The awards ceremony of an international contest to design a 4.4ha Central Square in Da Nang’s Hai Chau District recently took place in the city.

Organised by the municipal Department of Construction, the contest aimed to make the soon-to-be-developed Central Square a multi-purpose public space where cultural exchange activities, events and festivals can take place. The contest was open to both domestic and foreign design consultants.
The contest organisers received a total of 17 entries from 16 different design consultancies. Five were from abroad - Denmark, Hong Kong, France, Belgium and the Netherlands - and the remainder were from domestic units.
All the entries featured a harmonious combination of the traditional, modern and global integration characteristics of the city, and they all received high praise from the contest’s judges for their high quality.

In the end, there were no first prize winners.
Two second prizes of 250 million VND each were given to the CallisonRTKL Asia Limited from Hong Kong, and a joint venture between HUNI architectes + OMG-Designers + Boydens Engineering + Hydroscan + NEY & partners.

The third prize of 100 million VND went to the Ho Chi Minh City-based ATA ARCHITECTS Co Ltd.

Addressing the awards ceremony, the municipal People’s Committee Vice Chairman cum Head of the contest’s Winner Selection Committee, Mr Nguyen Ngoc Tuan, thanked the entrants for their design ideas demonstrating their sentimental attachment to this beautiful seaside city.
In related news, the official results of another contest to design the headquarters of the Da Nang Hi-tech Park and the main entrance gate to this venue have now been released.
HUNI Architectes won the first prize of 200 million VND, whilst the Anh Viet company (ARANVI JSC) was awarded the second prize of 80 million VND.
