Hydroelectric plants urged to make water discharge for sufficient water supplies over public holidays

Da Nang is expected to welcome more than 160,000 visitors during the forthcoming four-day break for the Reunification Day (April 30) and Labour Day (May 1) holidays, which may lead to a growing demand for tap water across the city.

The Da Nang Department of Natural Resources and the Environment has requested Song Bung 5 reservoir to discharge water with the largest flow possible at the same time and a continuous duration of at least 12 hours per day.

In an attempt to avoid any eruptions in water supplies, the Da Nang Department of Natural Resources and the Environment has requested the owners of hydropower reservoirs, namely A Vuong, Song Bung 2, Song Bung 4, Song Bung 4A, Song Bung 5 and Song Bung 6, to discharge water in line with the current regulations regarding inter-reservoir operating process on the Vu Gia - Thu Bon river basin.

As per request by the municipal authorities, from April 28 and May 4, the aforementioned hydropower reservoirs must discharge water with the largest flow possible at the same time, and a continuous duration of at least 12 hours per day.

In particular, the reservoirs of A Vuong, Song Bung 4 and Song Bung 4A must start the water discharge no later than 9:00am and end no earlier than 9:00pm.

Meanwhile, Song Bung 5 is required to start the water discharge no later than 11:00am, and end no earlier than 11:00pm.

For Song Bung 6 reservoir, the water discharge must be made in line with the equivalent flow into the lake (a maximum permissible error of +/- 10%).
