In light of the COVID-19 situation being 'basically" under control, Da Nang is mapping out socio-economic recovery plan following its transitioning to the new normal. Foreign-invested enterprises citywide have made a number of proposals with an attempt of maintaining production and business amid unpredictable developments of COVID-19.

In the current situation, enterprises citywide showed their willingness to join efforts with the municipal government in the fight against COVID-19, aimed at helping the life in the city return to normal, and production and business activities could be recovered soon.

General Director of the Heineken - Da Nang Brewery Co., Ltd. Nguyen Thanh Phuc suggested the city allow businesses to be proactive in well keeping themselves out of the COVID-19 attack and boosting production.

Mr. Ciprian Bota, Production Manager of the aerospace components manufacturer Universal Alloy Corporation (UAC) based in the Da Nang Hi-Tech Park, proposed that the city should allow all city-based businesses to operate at full capacity, as well as remove some mandatory requirements (providing proof of a negative PCR test and full vaccination) for foreign experts and workers.

According to the President of the Japanese Business Association in Da Nang, Mr Ikeda Naoatsu, numerous FDI businesses operating in the city are now facing serious challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic. In particular, such enterprises have seen a significant decrease in their profits and labours' income.

Therefore, he hoped that the city should grant authorization for enterprises to operate at full capacity, and for all IP workers to complete the two-dose vaccine series soon.

Mr Ikeda Naoatsu remarked the pandemic disrupted supply chains, limited the circulation of goods, and hindered production activities in the city.

"Delays in the repairing of damaged equipment, and installment of advanced production equipment due to lack of experts have directly affected business operations. For that reason, the city should allow double-jabbed experts to travel within the country to solve the problems, as well as the isolation period for fully-vaccinated people should be shortened" added President Ikeda Naoatsu.

Based on proposals made by FDI enterprises and the domestic business community as well, the Da Nang authorities are developing a socio-economic recovery plan in the new normal state, with specific scenarios for industrial parks and enterprises. The plan will be translated into many foreign languages so as for city-based FDI enterprises to fully grasp information and fulfil their ‘dual missions’ of preventing the spread of infection and maintaining production amid COVID-19 crisis.
