As observed on Thursday morning, the 25th day of the last lunar month, flower and ornamental plant shops on Le Dai Hanh Street were packed with visitors. All types of flowers are now available on sale at these shops, including yellow apricot blossoms, orchids, succulents, sunflowers, chrysanthemums of all kinds, azaleas, and hanging flowers. Among them, orchids are quite popular.

Through the recent surveys conducted by our reporters, the prices of orchids are ranging between VND450,000 and VND500,000 per pot, whilst hanging orchids are on sale at the prices of about VND180,000 - VND200,000 VND per pots.

Rhododendrons are being sold at the prices of between VND300,000 and VND350,000 VND per pot, and pots of bonsai rhododendrons cost from VND500,000 each.

Moreover, flower and ornamental plant shops are offering orchid arrangement services as requested. The pots of these orchids are priced from VND1 million to VND30 million depending on the number of branches on one pot.

Visiting the Tuy Hien bonsai garden on 68 Le Dai Hanh, Cam Le District, Mrs. Tran Thi Lan, who is residing in Hoa Thuan Tay Ward, Hai Chau District, said this was the first year she had bought orchids for home decorations on the Tet occasion.

“Most of orchids are being offered at the reasonable prices, making easy for me and other people to buy" said Mrs. Lan.

Similarly, Nguyen Dinh Tuu Street is now home to more than 90 shops specialising in selling flowers, ornamental plants, planting materials, handicraft products, and souvenirs.

Mrs. Le Thi Luu, the owner of the ‘Phong Luu’ orchid selling shop on Nguyen Dinh Tuu Street said that the price of orchids has increased by about 20% as compared to normal days due to the decrease in supply.

“This year, customers buy flowers quite early, starting from the 20th day of the last lunar month. Most of them prefer to buy pre-made orchid pots, priced at about VND500,000 each, to present their relatives and partners as Tet gifts” said Mrs. Luu.

Most of flower shop owners said that people bought Tet flowers one week ahead of the Tet Festival to choose beautiful flower baskets. In addition, some flowers have a slight increase in prices due to a lack of supply.
