From 2050 onwards, 100% buses, taxis to use electricity and green energy

Deputy Prime Minister Le Van Thanh has signed Decision No. 876/QD-TTg approving the Action Programme on green energy transformation, reducing carbon and methane emissions of the transport sector.

Accordingly, the overall objective of the strategy is to develop a green transport system towards the goal of net greenhouse gas emissions to "zero" by 2050.

Specifically, by 2030, focus will be on improving the efficiency of energy use, accelerate the switch to electricity use and green energy in the fields of the transportation industry which are ready in terms of technology, institution and resources to fulfill the commitment in "Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC) and the goal of reducing methane emissions of Viet Nam".

By 2050, the target is to rationally develop modes of transport, vigorously implement the use of electricity and green energy in all means, equipment, and transport infrastructure, towards the net-zero emissions of greenhouse gas.

Besides, the rate of public passenger transport in Ha Noi reaches 45 - 50%; Ho Chi Minh City 25%; Da Nang 25 - 35%; Can Tho 20%; Hai Phong10 - 15%; at least 5% of urban centres of grade I.

From 2030 onwards, the rate of vehicles using electricity and green energy will reach at least 50%; 100% of the taxis will use green energy.

By 2050, 100% of the buses and taxis will use electricity and green energy. The rate of public passenger transport in special urban hubs and urban centres of grade I will reach at least 40% and 10%, respectively.
