Da Nang - Frankfurt direct flights to be promoted

Within the framework of their ongoing working trip to Germany, a group of Da Nang’s officials, led by municipal People's Committee Vice Chairman Ho Ky Minh had a working session with leaders of the Frankfurt government on Tuesday.

Mr. Mike Josef, the Mayor of Frankfurt, expressed his pleasure to welcome the city delegation. He informed that Frankfurt, located in south-west Germany, is officially known as Frankfurt Am Main due to the river upon which it stands. With an area of ​​nearly 250 square kilometers, it is Germany’s fifth largest city. Frankfurt is the home of the European Central Bank and is considered to be one of the largest financial centers in the world. Many international banks and financial institutions have established a presence in the city, which has helped to establish Frankfurt as the leading financial center in Europe.

Besides, the Frankfurt Stock Exchange (FRA) is Germany's largest stock exchange and the twelfth largest in the world by market cap. Also, Frankfurt is considered a fair city and an important transport hub for Germany and Europe.

Speaking at the meeting, Vice Chairman Ho Ky Minh congratulated Mr. Mike Josef on his new position of Mayor of Frankfurt, and expressed his honour to work with the Frankfurt government.

He remarked his city has been focusing on developing key industries such as tourism services, high-tech industry, tourism, information technology, logistics and the formation of an international financial centre.

Mr. Minh said that the purpose of the delegation's business trip to the United Kingdom, Switzerland and Germany was to introduce and promote the potential, advantages, and investment and business environment of Da Nang.

In particular, the focus will be on introducing the Da Nang International Financial Centre project with a model based on 3 main functions: Offshore Financial Centers (OFC); Financial technology (fintech) centres, and supporting activities for financial activities.

The Da Nang International Financial Centre is planned to be built on a land area of nearly 6.2 hectares. It has the best connectivity and infrastructure conditions in the city, possessing the potential of a world-class living and working space, and meeting the requirements of organisations, businesses and investors in the United Kingdom, Switzerland and Germany.

Mr. Minh highly lauded German organisations and government for their active support for Da Nang in recent years.

Currently, Da Nang is receiving an ODA project on promoting the efficient use of resources and technical infrastructure systems in the context of industry and regional linkages funded by the German Ministry of Research and Education.

Moreover, many of Da Nang’s large enterprises have good trade relations with German partners.

Mr. Minh took the opportunity to ask for support from the Frankfurt government to appeal for Frankfurt-based businesses to visit Da Nang to seek cooperation and investment opportunities in such aspects as international finance, banking, fintech, tourism, trade and logistics services.

On the basis of potentials and strengths of each locality, with the spirit of dialogue to promote the relationship between the two cities, Frankfurt Mayor Mike Josef and Vice Chairman Ho Ky Minh agreed to promote the opening of the Da Nang - Frankfurt direct flights, thereby facilitating to promote the development of tourism, trade, training, and cultural exchanges. He invited Mayor Mike Josef to visit Da Nang in the coming time.

Before the meeting, the Da Nang delegation was introduced to the financial, stock exchange and commercial centres and old town in the city centre of Frankfurt.
