According to the museum’s artifact preservation team, wooden artifacts are more easily damaged than others. Therefore, they have to focus on cleaning and disinfecting stains, mold, and termites, and then use specialised glue to fix cracks and paint wood preservative oil on these artifacts in order to make them not dry, brittle and damaged. Finally, team members will use a compound to re-colour faded objects.
Lisa Ho, 30-year-old overseas Vietnamese in France, said that this is the third time she has visited the Museum of Da Nang over the past 2 years. She remarked she really liked coming here thanks to the meticulous and elaborate arrangement of artifacts here.
Talking about the process of restoring and maintaining historical artifacts, Head of the museum’s Commercial Collection and Preservation Office Dang Van Khoa said the preservation work is done weekly.
He added that the museum currently had 4 artifact preservation areas, including one for preserving metal materials (such as iron, copper, lead and zinc); one for carpentry materials (wood, rattan, bamboo, and more); one for artifacts made of pottery, porcelain and crockery, and paper material artifacts; and the one for artifacts made of stone, terracotta and archaeological artifacts.
Head Khoa remarked that his museum does not have its own storage, so it is very difficult for it to preserve the artifacts.

Before restoring and maintaining artifacts, the preservation team will use cameras to save images, sizes and quality of artifacts before and after restoration for comparisons. |
The team members are working hard to preserve the artifacts as best they can. |
Many artifacts are placed on the ground because the cabinets are full. |
Tourists are satisfied with the display as well as the quality of the artifacts. |
