The Sa Huynh salt fields are famous as the largest and most important of its kind in Central Viet Nam. Covering an area of over 110ha, these salt fields are positioned in Pho Thach Commune, Duc Pho District, about 60km south of Quang Ngai City.
Every year, from March to August, salt farmers are busy in cultivating crude salt in the fields.
Salt making is the main livelihood of nearly 600 households and is the way to preserve many cultural beauties in production labour.

First, based on the high tide level, salt farmers will bring sea water from the canal, ditch into the water bubble, and then slowly drop into the fields. |

After shallow fields are filled with sea water, and farmers will start to sprinkle salt bait, then wait for the sun to let the salt water slowly crystallize into salt. |

According to salt farmers, they have to watch the fields throughout 3 sunny seasons, until the whole salt is dry and white. Then the salt harvest can begin. Above all, the salt must be scratched and sifted in the midst of the blazing 39-40 degrees Celsius for the best quality salt. |
