UNDP shares experience in building 'City Lab' model
A talk on sharing international experience in building ‘Da Nang City Lab’ took place in the city on Tuesday.
The event was jointly organised by the municipal Socio-Economic Development Research Institute and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).
In his remarks at the event, municipal People’s Committee Vice Chairman Ho Ky Minh said the talk was the very first step to implement a Memorandum of Understanding signed by UNDP and the Da Nang government early this month.
Vice Chairman Minh noted traffic planning, environment and waste management, smart city, sustainable tourism development, innovation, and e-Government system, matter most to Da Nang during its urban development process.
He, therefore, asked a helping hand from both domestic and foreign experts to give drastic solutions to the above-mentioned issues. He also vowed that the municipal authorities would create very favourable conditions for UNDP to deliver the best solutions for promoting the city’s progress, including the development of the ‘Da Nang City Lab’ model.
UNDP Resident Representative in Viet Nam Caitlin Wiesen undertook that UNDP would support Da Nang in building and developing a dynamic and adaptable city which is capable of tackling its economic, social and environmental challenges.
During the event, Ms Gabriella Gómez-Mont, the founder cum director of the Mexico City Lab, shared international experience in building and implementing the ‘City Lab’ model in Mexico City, the first of its kind in Latin America.
She also highlighted the importance of developing innovative ideas and night-time economy, and dealing with traffic problems when building the ‘Da Nang City Lab’ model.
