In January 2021, the Da Nang Border Guard Command increased human resources for the Kien Giang counterpart to perform the task of border protection and COVID-19 prevention and control missions. At that time, Captain Le Xuan Nghia immediately volunteered to do the task despite knowing numerous difficulties, hardships and even dangers waiting for him ahead.
Captain Le Xuan Nghia and his comrades went on a mission at the checkpoint of the Giang Thanh Border Gate on the Ha Tien - Giang Thanh borderline bordering the Kingdom of Cambodia.
As shared by Captain Nghia, harsh weather, poor living conditions, as well as dangerous terrain there made their travelling fairly arduous. However, they still divided into small groups to patrol about 3-4 km per day, ensuring border control and protection.
Nighttime is often favourable for criminals to take advantage of the night, difficult terrain, and dense trees to illegally enter, smuggle and transport goods across the border. Therefore, Mr Nghia and his teammates were always on duty around the clock, organizing patrols according to the plan to promptly prevent and arrest criminal acts, especially taking the initiative in night combat plans, focusing on key areas, trails, and openings.
As a result, they promptly detected, prevented and arrested loads of violations, handled the criminals under current regulations, and seized more than 20,000 packages of smuggled cigarettes.
Besides the time of duty, simple joys that Mr Nghia never forgets is when sharing with local people there each bottle of drinking water, each loaf of bread distributed, fish or shrimp.
After completing his mission in Kien Giang Province, Captain Le Xuan Nghia returned to Da Nang and has continued to perform the duties of crime prevention, patrolling and fighting against robbery. On top of that, he has also coordinated with functional forces in fighting, dismantling smuggling and drug trafficking, contributing to maintaining social order and safety.
As a young party member, Captain Le Xuan Nghia was always imbued with Uncle Ho's teachings to serve the sake of people whenever or wherever he is. Although he has received many certificates of merit, his greatest joy was bringing peace to the people, thereby contributing to protecting the security of the Vietnamese fatherland.
