Busy labour market before Tet
Recent job fairs in Da Nang have attracted a large number of businesses and hundreds of job seekers, especially seasonal workers.
The city has seen a significant increase in the demand for manual labourers willing to work over the Tet holiday in, for example, trading and services, information technology, textiles and garments, tourism, health insurance and construction. In addition, many hotels, restaurants, and other tourism and home service providers need more temporary workers as the Tet Festival approaches.

For temporary work, labourers are usually paid based either on their working days or on the amount of goods they sell. They will not enjoy the other benefits, such as social insurance, which come with a permanent job in a company. However, their payment during the holiday season might be double that of a normal day. Therefore, workers can earn a considerable additional income during Tet, perhaps 400,000 VND per day.
Nguyen Hong Hanh, a third-year student at the University of Education, said that this will be the second time she has not returned to her hometown in Ha Tinh Province to celebrate Tet with her family because of her attractive Tet jobs in Da Nang.
Hanh estimated that she could earn up to 10 million VND from selling goods and distributing advertisement leaflets during the Tet period. This would then help her to cover her living expenses for several months after Tet without needing to ask her parents for support.
