During their 5-day stay in Laos, the Da Nang volunteers are offering free medical check-ups and medicines to 2,000 residents in the Laotian province.
In addition, free screening tests for the early detection of congenital heart complaints are being provided for 600 poor people there. After screening tests, the Giving It Back to Kids (GIBTK) organisation will fund surgery for poor Laotian children under 18 years old with heart congenital failure at the Da Nang General Hospital and the city’s Orthopaedics and Rehabilitation Hospital. The non-profit organisation will cover all the food, travelling and surgical costs for the patients.
Furthermore, the Da Nang visitors are presenting gifts, valued at 500,000 VND each, to 200 poor local families, as well as donating 2 cameras to the provincial YU organisation.
Within the framework of the trip, the city’s volunteers are enthusiastically taking part in cultural exchanges and sporting activities with their Laotian friends.
The total cost of the volunteer journey is nearly 500 million VND.
