Bitter cold expected to hit Northern and North Central Coast from Saturday

Warmer temperatures are in forecast during the daytime on Tuesday for Northern Viet Nam as temperatures are set to rise to 22 degrees Celsius but quickly drop to 12 degrees Celsius at night, according to Viet Nam’s National Center for Hydro-meteorological Forecasting.

The weather warning will remain in place across the region through Friday, and the region is likely to face a spell of severe cold weather from Saturday.

A severe cold weather alert has been issued for Northern and North Central Coast as national forecasters warn of bitter cold temperatures across these areas from early Saturday morning, December 17.  The frigid temperatures are expected to linger and will be widespread across these areas.

From Saturday, freezing temperatures are expected to strike the northern region and North Central Coast as temperatures are set to dip 8 to 11 degrees Celsius in their delta and coastal areas, and 3 to 5 degrees Celsius in their mountainous areas and midlands. Frigid temperatures can be expected in high mountains where can be as cold as below zero on the temperature scales with the chance of ice and salt-frost for these areas.

On Wednesday, the Gulf of Tonkin could see northeasterly wind at level 6, and the gusts reaching level 8. Strong northeasterly winds at levels 5 to 6, and gustiness of levels 7 to 8, as well as rough seas with waves as high as 3-5m are in forecast for the open waters off the Quang Tri - Quang Ngai coast, including Da Nang.

A warning for northeasterly winds at level 6, and the gusts reaching levels 7 to 8, rough seas with waves as high as 3-6 m is issued to the open waters off the Binh Dinh - Ca Mau Coast and the Middle and Southern part of the East Sea (including the waters west of Truong Sa Islands). The Northern part of the East Sea (including the waters of the Hoang Sa Islands) could see strong northeasterly winds of level 6, sometimes at level 7, gustiness of levels 8 to 9, rough seas with waves as high as 4-6 m.

National forecasters also issue a warning for strong winds and big waves to all vessels operating at the above mentioned areas.

On Tuesday, cloudy skies are expected in the parts from Thanh Hoa to Thua Thien-Hue while isolated rain is likely over these areas with early morning fog likely in some places. Meanwhile, sunny weather is in forecast for the northern part of the region. North to northwest winds at levels 2 to 3 could reach these areas. Maximum temperatures in these areas are expected to hover around 20-23 degrees Celsius, while minimum temperature will be in the range of 14-17 degrees Celsius.

Today expects the sky to remain mostly cloudy over the parts from Da Nang to Binh Thuan. The northern part of the region will witness a chance for scattered showers while the southern part is likely to see showers in some places during night hours. Northeasterly winds at levels 2 to 3 could reach the region. Temperatures in these areas can expect lows of 19 to 22 degrees Celsius and highs of 23 to 26 degrees Celsius in the northern part and 27 to 30 degrees Celsius in the southern part.

Central Highlands is likely to experience cloudy skies on Tuesday as national weather service forecasts no rain for this region during night hours. Northeasterly winds at levels 2 to 3 could reach the region. Maximum and minimum temperatures will hover around 25-28 degrees Celsius and 14-17 degrees Celsius, even below 13 degrees Celsius at isolated places.
