Da Nang gears up to achieve this year's target of reducing poverty
Local-level authorities across Da Nang have basically completed their target of reducing poverty for this year, thereby helping the city achieve its 2022 poverty reduction goal.

The Hai Chau 2 Ward Chapter of the Da Nang Fatherland Front Committee used VND 20 million from the local ‘For the poor’ Fund to repair a downgraded house of poor family of Mr Vo Van Tung.
Just two months ago, his 8-member family lived in a small space covering 35m2, and his house felt stuffy and humid as his family’s house was in disrepair, and rainwater easily seeped into the house.
“My family is very happy as our long-standing wish has come true. My family members now can live in the renovated house. We can confidently invite friends to our home," Mr. Tung said with a smile.
Similarly, An Hai Tay Ward Chapter of the Da Nang Fatherland Front Committee has asked for financial support totaling VND 55 million from district and municipal level authorities to help build new house for Mrs. Nguyen Thi Cham’s family. Their house was in a seriously degraded state as the walls and roof were badly damaged.
"The new house is a great encouragement and motivation for my family to try to get out of poverty," said Mrs.Cham
Mr Bui Nguyen Tan Phong, the Chairman of the Son Tra District Chapter of the Da Nang Fatherland Front Committee said that VND 2,686 billion have been raised so far this year for the district’s "For the Poor" Fund. Of which, VND 1,469 billion have gone to support the construction of 8 new houses, as well as to repair 78 downgraded houses for local poor families. In addition, more than VND 593 million have been spent on providing livelihood support for 120 poor households. Furthermore, more than VND 2,147 billion have been used to grant monthly allowances for 626 poor people.
Especially, monthly allowances totaling over VND 812 million have been granted for 200 households that faced housing and livelihood challenges. As a result, 655 out of 2,030 households have been lifted out of poverty while 302 out of 1,069 households have escaped near poverty and 36 out of 200 households have escaped extreme poverty, thereby helping the district achieve and even exceed the target of reducing poverty set for this year.
Mr Lam Tien Si, the Hoa Vang District Division of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs said that there were 2,976 poor households and 1,385 near-poor households across the district in early 2022 under the city's poverty standards. So far this year, more than VND 5 billion have been raised for the district’s ‘For the Poor’ Fund. Of which, VND 4.125 billion have gone to build 43 new houses and repair 99 downgraded houses for poor households in addition to providing livelihood support, granting hardship allowances, offering job opportunities, and providing vocational training for hundreds of poor people. As a result, 706 households in the district have escaped poverty while 395 others escaped near poverty.
Mrs Pham Thi Nhan, the Chairwoman of the Cam Le District Chapter of the Da Nang Fatherland Front Committee said that VND 2.569 billion have been raised for the district’s ‘For the poor’ Fund. The district has used the raised funding and allocated resources to support the construction of 7 new houses at a total cost of VND 360 million, as well as repair 18 downgraded houses with a total amount of VND 286 million. In addition, more than VND 350 million have been spent on granting 360 scholarships for children from poor households. Furthermore, more than VND 310 million have gone to grant hardship allowances, and provide livelihood support for hundreds of poor households. As a result, 332 out of 963 households in the district have escaped poverty while 218 out of 768 households have escaped near poverty, and 21 out of 77 households have escaped extreme poverty, thereby helping the district achieve and even exceed the target of reducing poverty set for this year.
Hai Chau District has mobilized more than VND 6.2 billion for its Fund ‘For the Poor’. Of which, over VND 460 million have gone to build 7 new houses while VND 1,082 billion have been spent on repairing 68 downgraded houses. In addition, VND 342 million have been used to provide livelihood support for 52 poor households and VND 1,313 billion for granting scholarships for 2,038 poor school pupils and college students. These meaningful activities helped to provide social welfare benefits for the needy across the district, contributing to joining hands with the municipal government to achieve the city’s poverty reduction goal for 2022.
Mrs Nguyen Thi Thu Huong, the Deputy Director of the Da Nang Department of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs remarked that in addition to gearing up to achieve the 2022 poverty reduction goal, the city will focus on making greater efforts to ensure that all poor households, disadvantaged people and those in difficult circumstances enjoy a warm and happy Tet.
