Ensuring good care of the poor for Tet
Da Nang’s Fatherland Front committees at all levels continue their efforts to call for donations from businesses, organizations and individuals across the city to support poor households, families in difficult circumstances and those affected by natural disasters as the Tet holiday is nearing in order to ensure good care of disadvantaged families, contributing to ensuring effective implementation of the city’s social welfare policy.

Da Nang Fatherland Front Committee Vice Chairman Duong Dinh Lieu highlighted great efforts the city’s Fatherland Front committees at all levels to support poor and disadvantaged households to celebrate Tet in a safe and economic way in order to ensure that no one is left behind although the New Year and Lunar New Year holidays are too close together.
According to Mrs Pham Thi Nhan, the Chairwoman of Cam Le District Chapter of the Da Nang Fatherland Front Committee, over VND 1 billion from the district’s budget will be spent on giving Tet gifts to poor households, near-poor households, “newly escaped from poverty” households, plus families living under extremely difficult circumstances. There are 1,181 poor households across the district, of which, 371 are classified as poor according to the national poverty thresholds, and 810 others are classified as poor according to the municipal poverty thresholds.
Meanwhile, Hoa Vang District is gearing up to support the poor with a focus on promoting the spirit of solidarity and mutual affection among the local residents in an attempt to call for donations from benefactors in response to a campaign to join hands to help the poor, disadvantaged people, Agent Orange victims, people with disabilities to have a joyful Tet launched by the Viet Nam Fatherland Front.
The district will give 3,970 Tet gifts valued at VND 500,000 to VND 1 million each to local disadvantaged households. In addition, nearly VND 17 million will be spent on presenting Tet gifts to 17 heroic Vietnamese mothers and 4 village elders, and reputable people in the local community. Furthermore, Tet gifts totaling VND 16 million will be given to 32 people who were key officials of the district chapter of the Da Nang Fatherland Front Committee.
Lien Chieu District has till date mobilized more than 2,500 gifts, each worth VND 500,000 to VND 1 million from businesses to present them to local poor people, and they will receive the gifts as soon as possible to celebrate Tet.
Duong Dinh Lieu said that VND 8.6 billion from the city’s Fund "For the Poor" and the City’s Relief Fund will be spent on giving 16,300 gifts to disadvantaged households.
In detail, more than VND 3.3 billion will go to support 4,974 near-poor households, 1,724 households living under extremely difficult circumstances across the city. In addition, VND 241 million will be spent on helping 241 households affected by natural disasters. Furthermore, 426 households of Co Tu ethnic group and poor Vietnamese of Chinese origin will receive cash support worth more than VND 511 million in total. Moreover, Tet gifts totaling VND 400 million will be given to 800 members in difficult circumstances from 8 organizations, including the Municipal Association of Agent Orange Victims, the Municipal Association of the Blind, the Municipal Association of People with Disabilities, the Municipal Association for People with Disabilities and Orphans Protection, the Municipal Association of the Elderly. Meanwhile, 35 near-poor households will receive Tet gifts totaling VND 24.5 million.
Besides, more than VND 4.1 billion from the city’s budget will go to support 8,229 households affected by the COVID-19 pandemic and natural disasters.
