Warmer weather moves out as a cold front brings wet and cold weather to the parts from Quang Binh to Quang Ngai, including Da Nang, from Monday, January 16.

In a statement issued on Sunday afternoon, the Mid-Central Region Centre for Hydro-meteorological Forecasting said that the chilly, cloudy and windy conditions as well as scattered showers with localized moderate rainfall are likely across these areas.

The regional weather service has attributed the cold weather to the influence of an intense cold snap.

Bitter cold temperatures are expected to strike the parts from Quang Binh to Thua Thien- Hue as the minimum temperature is predicted to drop to 13 to 16 degrees Celsius in Quang Binh, and 15 to 18 degrees Celsius in Quang Tri and Thua Thien Hue, even 13 to 15 degrees Celsius in their mountainous areas. Cold front will also see temperatures plummet in the parts from  Da Nang to Quang Ngai, with temperatures expected to range from 18 to 20 degrees Celsius.

These areas are expected to experience very cold at night time and during early mornings, regional forecasters warned.

Strong northeasterly winds at levels 6 to 7, and gustiness of levels 8 to 9, as well as rough seas with waves as high as 3-5m are in forecast for waters of Hoang Sa Islands.

The open waters off the Binh Dinh – Quang Ngai Coast could experience strong northeasterly winds at level 6, and the gusts reaching levels 7 to 8, as well as rough seas with waves as high 2-4m.

Viet Nam’s National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting said that a cold snap is heading south over the country and it hit Northwest, North Central Coast and some places in the Mid-central region of Viet Nam on Monday. It will affect the remaining parts of the Mid-central region, thereafter.

By the coastal areas they will see high winds at levels 4 to 5, and gustiness of levels 6 to 7 and farther inland you could find gradually increasing northeasterly wind at level 3.

From Monday into Wednesday, January 18, chilly conditions will prevail over the Northern region and North Central coast while the cooler weather is expected to work in the parts from Quang Binh to Thua Thien-Hue. The cold wave conditions intensify as the mercury is expected to drop further from Monday in the northern region with the temperature likely to fall as low as 9-12 degrees Celsius, and even 6 to 9 degrees Celsius in its mountainous areas. Frigid temperatures can be expected in high mountains where can be as cold as below 3 degrees Celsius in some places.

North Central Coast, and the parts from Quang Binh to Thua Thien- Hue will also come under the influence of intense cold wave as the minimum temperature is likely to settle in the range from 11-14 degrees Celsius in North Central Coast, as well as to touch from 14-17 degrees Celsius in the parts from Quang Binh to Thua Thien- Hue.
