Severe shortage of land for business purposes
During the ongoing 11th session of the Da Nang People’s Council (PC) in its 2011-2016 term, some PC members urged the municipal authorities to ensure that enough land is available for use for business or production activities in order to attract more domestic and foreign investors.
Da Nang is now one of Viet Nam’s 6 largest fisheries hubs. However, there are now no vacant land lots for any fisheries service development projects at the Tho Quang Seafood Services Industrial Park (IP) because many land lots here have been earmarked for other local development projects.
To date, most of the local IPs’ rental space has been occupied. The progress of the city’s Information Technology Zone and Hi-tech Park projects have remained very slow. In addition, the construction of small and medium-scale IPs have yet to be carried out.
Over recent years, the city has seen many positive results in its tourism and services, but no significant changes have been reported in the local industrial sector. The city is now facing a severe shortage of land for business purposes, which has hindered it from attracting more large-scale domestic and foreign industrial investors. In reality, industrial production is likely to bring great benefits to the city’s budget.
Many investors have found it very hard to access land to set up their businesses or conduct their production activities, which has mainly resulted in a decline in foreign direct investment (FDI) flows into the city over the past few years. Meanwhile, there have been delays in the deployment of some local development projects in prime locations.
To deal with this problem, the municipal People’s Committee will urge local relevant agencies to promptly re-check business land-use outside local IPs, and to take back any under-used or unused land in order to re-lease it to businesses in need of land for production activities in line with the national Law on Land 2013.
