City's urban development promises by 2030

Under the master urban plan for its progress by 2030, with a vision towards 2045, Da Nang is striving to become a green, modern-smart, global city with unique identity.

In more specific explanations, ‘green city’ with green environment and green lifestyle, and identity; ‘modern-smart city’ boasting modern technical infrastructure and management mechanism, using modern technologies in the ongoing fourth industrial revolution (Industry 4.0); ‘global city’ with global connectivity; and ‘unique city’ being a worth-living and memorable city.

In an attempt to gain the above-mentioned achievements, the city plans to secure its position as a big economic hub with rapid growth in the central and Central Highlands regions.

Da Nang also aims to see the gross regional domestic product (GRDP) growth of 9 - 11%, and GRDP per capita ranging between 7,000 USD and 9,000 USD for the 2018 - 2030 period.

Architect Vu Quang Hung, the Director of the municipal Department of Construction remarked that, in the coming time, focus will be on developing the city’s urban space planning in combination with maximizing the regional linkages, hereby leveraging the city’s socio-economic growth.

Accordingly, the city will concentrate on fostering the development of its  southeast and northwest parts.

The city’s southeast side will link with the Dien Ban urban area in the neighbouring province of Quang Nam, whilst, the northwest side of the city will see the establishment of satellite towns and production areas with many spearhead investment projects.

By 2030, the city’s urban space will be expanded in order to accommodate an estimated population of 2 – 3 million.

A synchronous transport infrastructure system will be developed, with an emphasis on increasing the service capacity of the city’s international airport, constructing the Lien Chieu mega-port and developing logistics services.

Also, the city will witness the construction of such modern transport means as overhead railway, subway and public buses.

Also by 2030, the urban spatial structure will move to a new development stage towards the 2050 vision. At that time, Da Nang will have developed into an environmentally friendly and smart city.

Representatives from the Singapore Production Federation (SMF) remarked that the promotion of the ‘green city’ model is the main development orientation for Da Nang.

Besides, they underlined a must-do for the city to make full use of its strengths and advantages in attract talented human resources all over the world which play the most crucial role in the city’s progress.

Local experts underlined the importance of developing the city’s specific strategies, namely promoting the role of a big hub in the key central economic region, preserving the identity of the city featuring sea, rivers and mountains, developing green planning and architecture, becoming a civilised and modern urban hub, a national and international-level worth-living, smart urban area, and a regional hub for startups, innovation and creativeness.
