In their efforts to achieve the goal for 2023 to complete 25% of the lump sum contract for construction and installation works of the Lien Chieu Port project, equivalent to the disbursed amount of VND 658 billion in 2023, 5 construction units are maximizing their resources, including workers, equipment and machinery to build the shared infrastructure part since the beginning of the year.

In early March, the construction site of the Lien Chieu Port Project saw dozens of dump trucks, bulldozers, compactor trucks, excavators and other equipment being operated by workers with a sense of urgency in order to show their determination to speed up progress, contributing to ensuring the project stays on schedule, as well as promoting public investment disbursement for the project.

The shared infrastructure construction features dikes and breakwater systems (1,170m), navigation channel, turnaround places and marine signaling systems for cargo ships of up to 100,000DWT (6,000-8,000TEU), road traffic system connecting the port, electricity and water supply infrastructure, along with ancillary works synchronously to the port gate.

The Lien Chieu Port project consists of 2 components namely components A and B. In which, component A comprises of main work items such as dikes, breakwater systems, navigation channel, turnaround places and marine signaling systems, electricity and water supply infrastructure and ancillary works synchronously to the port gate while component B (startup phase), covering a total area of 44ha and comprising 2 wharves (750 square meters) is called for private investment capital. It will take the construction units 1,380 days to complete the construction of component A, and all work is scheduled to be completed in December 2025.

It is known that the Da Nang government has awarded the shared infrastructure construction package valued at VND 2,945 billion to a consortium consisting of the Phu Xuan Construction and Consultant Joint Stock Company, the Lung Lo Construction Corporation , the Truong Son Construction Corporation, DACINCO Construction Investment Limited Company, and the Xuan Quang Construction Joint Stock Company.

According to Mr. Nguyen Phu Xuan, the CEO of the Phu Xuan Construction and Consultant Joint Stock Company highlighted great efforts construction units have made to use the maximum of available resources to keep their project on track and ensure quality in construction. He remarked that fast construction progress of the project is mainly attributed to  high level of sense of responsibility among construction engineers and workers who are willing to perform the work regardless of weather conditions or time of day or night, along with strong support from relevant local agencies and the Da Nang Management Board of Priority Infrastructure Investment Projects to help construction units ensure their work runs smoothly.

Mr. Nguyen Phu Xuan showed the determination of construction contractors to exceed their construction progress targets for 2023 in order to shorten their project schedule and accelerate their project delivery.

Mr. Le Thanh Hung, the Director of the Da Nang Management Board of Priority Infrastructure Investment Projects said that the Lien Chieu Port is identified as the city’s key project and a driving force for the city’s development. Hence, the Management Board has directed construction units to work with relevant agencies to accelerate the construction of road items, breakwaters, water surface area and other main items. Currently, construction units focus on speeding up progress and making the works on the construction site faster and more efficient.

According to Mr. Hung, the Management Board is committed to directing the consultancy unit and construction contractors to expedite the project schedule while ensuring the safety and environmental sanitation in the construction site as well as ensuring quality in construction. The aim is to complete at least 25% of the lump sum contract for construction and installation works of the Lien Chieu Port project, equivalent to the disbursed amount of VND 658 billion in 2023.

The master plan on development of Viet Nam's seaport system in the 2021-2030 period, with a vision to 2050, which was approved by the Vietnamese Prime Minister under the Decision No. 1579/QD-TTg dated September 22, 2021, identified Da Nang seaport as the largest port in Central Viet Nam and one of the three largest and key seaports of Viet Nam. The new Lien Chieu Port will be a major transport hub for the region, and Viet Nam as a whole, as it will connect with different types of transport (air, sea, road or rail).

By 2050, the Lien Chieu Port will have a handling capacity of 50 million tonnes per year. It will be one of three deep-water seaports of Viet Nam, planned as a special port with the scale of receiving cargo ships of up to 100,000 deadweight tonnage (DWT) and container ships with loading capacities from 6,000 to 8,000 twenty-foot equivalent unit (TEUs).
